April 2013 Meeting

Date and time:
 April 20, 2013, 1:00 p.m. to 2:30

Location:
Citrus County Library, Coastal Region Branch
8619 W. Crystal St.
Crystal River, FL 34428-4468
Phone: (352) 795-3716

To RSVP  and get the practice sheets for the songs, send an email to:
ukulelesrfun at gmail.com

Of course, replace the word 'at' with '@'.  Writing it in the above format is an attempt to foil the email harvesting bots and end up with a lot of spam.

We'll start with some new songs.  First a few new easy ones, then a couple of challenge songs, then each person will have the opportunity to request a song of their choice.  If you choose a song from our previous song files, then we should all already have a copy.    If you want to suggest something new, then either bring a copy for everyone or send a copy to me at least a week before the meeting, and I'll send copies out via email.  If you suggest a song we haven't done before, then you must know the song well enough to lead it.

Song List:
  • I'd Like to Teach The World To Sing
  • Harper Valley PTA
  • Ghost Riders in the Sky
  • Big Rock Candy Mountain (my slightly altered version)
  • Som Fun with Common Meter
The Challenge songs (these songs have familiar chords, but more frequent chord changes):
  • Bye Bye Love
  • Bad Moon Rising
List of things to bring (if you have them):
  • Ukulele and your Tuner
  • Song books "The Daily Ukulele" and "The Daily Ukulele Leapyear Edition"
  • Music Stand
  • A printout of the pdf file with our songs for the day and also always bring all the songs from prior meetings

The First Official Meetup of the Citrus County Ukulele Club!

Date and time:
 February 16, 2013, 1:00 p.m. to 2:30

Location:
Citrus County Library, Coastal Region Branch
8619 W. Crystal St.
Crystal River, FL 34428-4468
Phone: (352) 795-3716

This is the first meeting, so we'll get acquainted, demonstrate some chords for people new to the ukulele, then do a little jamming.

To RSVP and download and print the practice sheets, go to our meetup site:
http://www.meetup.com/Citrus-County-Ukulele-Club/

After joining meetup and the club (this is free), click on "More", then "Files".  You will see a list of files to download, double click or right click to start the download.  And don't foreget to RSVP.

Song List:
Let's start with some easy, 3-chord songs.
  • Ghost Chickens in the Sky (sung to the tune of Ghost Riders in the Sky)- Video
  • Don't Worry Be Happy - Video
  • Count Me Out- Video
And a couple of slightly more challenging arrangements:
If you would like to attend but prefer not to join meetup.com, send an email to "ukulelesrfun at gmail.com" to RSVP and I can email the practice sheets back to you. (remember to change the spaces and the "at" to "@", I've entered it this way to trip up the spammers who mine emails from websites).

You will need a ukulele to participate, but feel free to come and see what it's all about first if you want to.  If you need to buy a ukulele and would like some suggestions, let me know.  You can use the email address referenced above.
